Information On Cessation of UK £1 Coins and £5 notes In 2017

From March 28th 2017, the new 12-sided £1 coin will be introduced in the UK, and from October 15th 2017,  the old coin will cease to be legal tender.

This means that any old coins you take back to UK with you after that time, can only be changed at a UK bank or building society, and many/most of those banks have said they will only offer this service to their own customers.
In a similar manner the old paper £5 note will cease to be legal tender on May 5 2017. This has already started to be replaced by the "plastic" (polymer) note, introduced in September last year.

Ebluey Service

Posted: 20 Feb 2017 11:00 PM PST
TheMinistry of Defence has announced that it is ending the e-bluey service on 31 March 2017.

Since the draw down from Afghanistan in 2014, the e-bluey service has become less popular as a way for service personnel to keep in touch. The number of downloads per month has dramatically decreased from 100,000 to less than 3,000 downloads per month.

With the ever-growing use of Wi-Fi and mobile data-based technology for keeping in touch, personnel are finding new ways to speak to their family and loved ones.

The MOD wants to make sure that it provides the best possible support to personnel at the best possible value for money for the UK taxpayer. The MOD is reinvesting the funds used for the e-bluey service into innovative and modern ways of communicating that will be more relevant to the needs and expectations of a larger number of service personnel.

Radar Speed Traps

Dear all,

Speed Traps

Please note the recent installation of photo radar on the way from US Support Site back to Lago Patria, on or around SP 335, which is the Giugliano-Marcianise exit from SS7. Word is it was installed in early January, although it looks like end-Nov per the website, and fines start at 420€ for 20km over the speed limit.

Copy that link to your browser and have a look.

Best regards,
